Eggers Grove Nature Block Party

This May, Phoenix Farms participated in the Forest Preserves of Cook County annual Nature Block Party at Eggers Grove. We were excited to join this awesome celebration of biodiversity!

Board member Elena preps our rock painting activity

Our table hosted a rock painting party for all ages. Bright colored rocks, painted with nontoxic paints, will help attract pollinators to our food forest. Pollinators are an essential part of growing fruits and vegetables and we hope these rocks will convince them to stop by. We also shared packets of native Illinois wildflowers for participants to take home and plant in their own space.

It was great to chat with new friends about food forests, bees, and preserving native Illinois plants. We hope to see some of them at the food forest this growing season!
