Spring Planting
Spring has officially sprung at Phoenix Farms, and we’ve been busy planning and planting for a delicious season ahead.
This season, we focused on a mix of native plants for our pollinator friends and fresh veggies for our neighbors. On the pollinator side, we planted a mix of vibrant flowers and hardy native perennials, including butterfly weed. It’s a favorite of butterflies, and we’re hoping it draws in plenty of winged visitors to keep the garden blooming.
On the veggie side, we replanted tomatoes and peppers for some summer staples, plus a new strawberry bush we’re very excited about. It’s small now, but hoping it grows quickly! Herbs like cilantro, dill, chives, and onions are already sprouting. It’s exciting to think of all the cooking we could do with the herbs, once they’re ready for harvest.
The most exciting news this spring is that our fruit trees made their first fruit! After years of care, we spotted apples and cherries starting to form. It felt like a milestone moment—a small celebration of all the work that’s gone into nurturing this land.
We had to trim the fruit early to help the trees focus on getting stronger, letting their energy go toward roots and branches instead of ripening fruit. A little bittersweet, sure—but if this is the start, next year is going to be incredible.
Every season brings its own rhythm and lessons, and spring always feels like a fresh start. We’re so proud of how Phoenix Farms is evolving—it is becoming thriving little ecosystem. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, come say hi. We’d love to meet you - email us at phoenixfarms.nfp@gmail.com so we can find a time.
